Befrienders’ Training
Recognizing that most people do not turn to formal social service providers in times of needs, but rely heavily on their social support systems, the society is embarking on a training program to equip individuals interested in helping their friends on a peer level. Befrienders will undergo monthly full day workshops covering among other issues
1. Basic skills in communication
2. Basic intervention skills
3. Stress management
4. Recognizing possible psychopathology
5. Supporting individuals using professional mental health services
This program will be targeted to youth and young adults across the island.
Career Counselling Workshops
Recognizing that many youth and young adults are confused about both their career options and what to expect when they pursue a particular occupation, the society aims to organize a series of seminars which deal with the following issues:
1. Personality profiling to provide indication of career interests
2. Exposure to professionals from a variety of occupations to understand the rigors, training and pathways of these occupations
3. Personal career counselling
This program will be targeted to youth and young adults across the island.
Family Life Seminar
Recognizing the many stressors that families undergo in Singapore, a series of family life seminars conducted by competent professionals are being scheduled for the year. These seminars attempt to provide education on a number of issues which seeks to help families better cope with these stressors. Topics which will be covered include
1. Dealing effectively with your in-laws
2. How to handle transitions into Primary One
3. Communicating as a couple
4. Communicating with children
