From Anointing to Glory

Monday, June 26th, 2006

By Tommy Tenney

God must repossess the Church if He is going to redefine the Church. This repossession must begin with a restoration of the people of God back to the person of God. God’s people must move beyond the pursuit of the gifts in order to pursue the Giver. So many have financed their own journey away from the Father’s face with those very gifts. In our pursuit of His glory we are consumed with the ‘tracks’ of God rather than living in the ‘present’ Presence of God.

We are fascinated with the anointing and fearful of the Glory. The anointing empowers flesh but the glory disables flesh. The difference between the two is like the difference between static electricity and grabbing an electric wire with your bare hand. Ask Uzzah!

The journey from the anointing to the glory will involve death. Only dead things can handle the glory. Only dead men can see His face.
From the blessings to the Blesser,
From the gifts to the Giver,
From the power to the Presence

This message by Tommy Tenney, preached at Brownsville, will open up some hidden paths that will enable you to begin the journey from the anointing to the glory.

WHAT IS “AUTO-TAINMENT?”

Frankly, we don’t know. But Larry the Cucumber is pretty sure it involves an automated set from the FUTURE, singing robotic children and some of your favorite veggies performing bizarre renditions of classic songs like “Zaccheus.” “Hole in the Bottom of the Sea” and Gilbert & Sullivan’s “Modern Major General.” All that and much more… plus Bob and Larry learn that God still loved them even when the future doesn’t work out quite the way they had hoped.

Tune in for the fun as Big Idea’s award-winning writers and animatiors cut loose with the most bizarre vision of the future since 2001 : A Space Odyssey.

We’ve seen the future… and it’s “AUTO-TAINMENT!”

The Story of Christmas

Tuesday, April 25th, 2006

Christmas has become a commercial festival, a holiday that people all over the world celebrate, often forgetting what it is all about and where the story all began…

“The Story of Christmas” highlights the magical side of this enchanting event in keeping with the biblical version.

The animations provide an original point of view for an age-old story. This animated film tells the story of the birth of Jesus, the anger of King Herod, the flight into Egypt and the attempt by Herod to kill Jesus.

The story is seen through the eyes of a donkey and an ox who witness the birth and do what they can to protect the child.

The Four Pages Of The Sermon - A Guide to Biblical Preaching

Tuesday, April 25th, 2006

Author: Paul Scott Wilson

This is a book of practical theology at its best. The book is eminently, concretely practical with a suggestive model of how to design a sermon.

Embedded within this suggestive proposal for how to preach are a number of invaluable insights about the discipline of preaching (for instance, preachers need to remember that the congregation live their lives in the “world” not in the church, and that the institution is not and should not be as central to their lives as it is to ours.

With stunning simplicity, Paul Scott Wilson proposes that we think of the sermon as four pages -

  • trouble behind the biblical text,
  • trouble in our world,
  • good news in the biblical text,
  • good news for our world.

When powered by a responsible theological hermeneutic, and a lively, disciplined imagination, this approach will lead congregations into the transforming arena of the Gospel.

The book is thoroughly illustrated with sermons from a broad spectrum of the Christian community. It will be an immediate staple in your classes.
