Course Outline - Poetic Books

This course is a study of the five books of the Old Testament commonly known as the Poetic Books, with a brief introduction to Hebrew poetry. The books studied are Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, and Lamentations. An analysis is made of the authorship, literary structure, doctrine, and theology of each book, with emphasis placed on the role of wisdom literature in the Christian life and faith.

It will be the objective of this course to provide insight as to the role and message of the Old Testament prophets. A general comprehension of the times and the background events will be sought to foster an appreciation of the message of each prophetic messenger. The scope of this semester will be the prophetic books of the Old Testament in chronological sequence, according to the textbook, including Habakkuk, Nahum, Ezekiel, Obadiah, Daniel, Haggai, Zechariah, Joel and Malachi. The amount of time spent on Daniel will be limited to providing an overview as the course on “Revelation and Daniel” furnishes an in-depth study of this book.

Learning Our Christian Roots…

In the month of November, I want us to re-examine the Book of Acts as a church.
The book of Acts deals with the life and the history of the early church. Being Apostolic Christians we want to pattern the book of Acts as closely as we can. To do this we want to know among other things

How the early church dealt with persecution?
How the early church dealt with differences in opinion in their midst?
How the early church spread the gospel to others?
How the early church appointed leaders….
