Course Outline - Historical Books

Thursday, March 9th, 2006

Course Objectives:

It will be the objective of this course to provide an overview of the Historical Books of the Old Testament: Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1 & 2 Samuel, 1 & 2 Kings, 1 & 2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther. An understanding will be sought of God’s involvement with the Children of Israel and how they were taken from wilderness wandering to the conquest of Canaan; from a patchwork design of different tribal families to become a great nation; from the division of the kingdom to the exile in captivity; and finally, to witness the restoration and rebuilding according to the promises of God. Also, it will be the stated objective of this course to develop an understanding of how the message of the Historical Books may be relevant to us today. Knowing that, “. . . all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come” (1 Corinthians 10:11).
