Updates on Willoughbys - 28 May 09

May 29th, 2009 by Mei Cheng

Dear Friends

I am pleased to inform you that Sis Barbara Willoughby was discharged earlier today, Thursday, 28 May 2009 from Gleneagles Hospital. She is now resting comfortably at home.  The two procedures performed yesterday, removal of some fluid from her spinal column for testing and administration of chemotherapy directly into her spinal column went smoothly. She informed this morning that her legs were a bit stronger. She will be reviewed by her oncologist next Wednesday.

Thank you once again for your continuous prayer support and your words of encouragement.
Thank you for staying in the fight with us.

Abiding in Him who is faithful

Announcement: Celebrate Pentecost

May 27th, 2009 by admin
Dear Saints,
Rev. John Wolfram is a highly esteemed evangelist based in States who travels extensively to more than 30 countries. He has over 20 years of experience in the ministry. He will be sharing with us on the topic of the Baptism & Power of the Holy Spirit.

1. Title of Service: Baptism of the Holy Spirit
Date: 29th May, Friday
Time: 7.30pm
2.  Title of Service: Power of the Holy Spirit
Date: 31th May, Sunday
Time: 11.15am
Venue: Alive Community Church @ The Oriental Plaza (Chinatown), 291 New Bridge Rd S(088756)
(opposite Pearl Centre, 5 mins walk from Outram MRT station)

In 1968, John Wolfram completed the grueling BUD’S (Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL) training at Coronado, California. After jump school at Fort Benning, Georgia and Survival School in California, John served his first tour in Vietnam in 1968. John returned to the United States to train for the Apollo space missions and was involved on both the Apollo 10 and 11 missions. John was the first frogman in the water during the re-entry of the historic first moon landing.

When John returned to Vietnam in 1970, he experimented with drugs and became an addict. He even contemplated suicide. It was at this dark period of his life that he had a life transforming experience with Jesus Christ. John’s first visit to a Pentecostal church resulted in him being filled with the Holy Ghost and baptism in Jesus’ name.

John and Deborah were instrumental in opening up a mission work in Vietnam. During the four and a half years that John traveled in and out of Vietnam, dozens of leaders were baptized in Jesus’ name and thousands of believers were baptized and fi lled with the Holy Ghost. They are currently full-time missionaries, appointed as evangelists to Asia and the Pacific regions.

This Friday & Sunday, come with expectant hearts and invite a friend or two along to experience the life-transforming power of Jesus Christ. Kindly forward this to anyone whom you think might benefit. Admission is free. God Bless.

Urgent Prayer Requests for Willoughbys - 27 May 09

May 27th, 2009 by Mei Cheng

Dear Friends,

Staying in the Fight

On Sunday, 24 May 2009, Sis Barbara Willoughby was admitted to a hospital with complaints of severe nausea and severe pain in her legs. Her nausea was brought under control by an IV drip. A MRI scan of her spine was performed on Tuesday, 25 May 2009 to address the issue of muscle weakness and pain in her legs. The MRI results have been reviewed by Sis WIilloughby’s oncologist and a neurologist.  The MRI results showed that cancer has spread in her body.  The MRI showed several spots on the spinal membrane around the nerves in her lower back that go to her legs and spots on her L2 lumbar vertebrae.  It is these malignant growths that are causing Sis Barbara to have difficulty walking. A neurological examination showed that her legs are still strong and she still has bladder control however her ankles are weak.

Later today, Sis Willoughby will be undergoing a procedure in which some fluid from her spinal column will be removed for testing and chemotherapy will be injected directly into her spinal column in an attempt to destroy the spots. The chemotherapy is being injected directly into her spinal column because chemotherapy is unable to penetrate the spinal membrane. Both the neurologist and oncologist have stated that this is not a cure but a way to maintain and to keep the cancer under control. We did seek a second opinion on the treatment options from Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre (MSKCC) last night.  With cancer on spinal column there are only a few treatment options.  The MSKCC doctor agreed with the treatment option that was selected and will be performed on Sis Willoughby.  When asked about her prognosis, Dr KS Khoo was unable to give one. He stated that this development was ‘not a good thing’.

It is difficult to accept that cancer has invaded new areas in Sis Willoughby’s body. For the past 25 months, Sis Willoughby has been fighting a relapse of cancer. It is not easy to have been on chemotherapy for the past 2 years and yet still raise a family and serve in ministry. Sis Willoughby is one tough lady. Despite the news, Sis Willoughby maintains a spirit of optimism and is pressing ahead with treatment. She is staying in the fight.

It is our desire at Tabernacle of Joy that we also stay in the fight and uphold the arms of Bishop and Sis Willoughby. I don’t have the answers. I can’t answer the ‘whys’ for you today. What I can pray however is God ‘let thy will be done’. ‘Your will be done’ whatever that means.

To all of our friends and our prayer supporters around the world, thank you for your unceasing prayer for the Willoughbys and for Singapore.  I close with a few prayer pointers:

  1. That there will be no complications arising from the procedure performed today.
  2. That the treatment for the spinal membrane will be successful evidenced by no pain in the legs and good mobility.
  3. That no additional growths will be found in Sis Willoughby’s body.
  4. Pray for courage, strength and peace to invade the Willoughby home.
  5. Pray that Bishop Willoughby, Meghan, Barak and Mikayla will feel God’s presence with them in a special way today.

Trusting in a faithful God,

Updates on Willoughbys - 26 May 09

May 27th, 2009 by Mei Cheng

Dear Friends

Just a short update on Sis Willoughby tonight  …. Although she is still hospitalized, she is feeling stronger every day. She reported that she felt no pain in her legs today. In addition to the MRI which was performed yesterday, an additional test will be carried out tomorrow to assist in determining the nature of the problem with her legs. With the results of this test, the oncologist will be able to come to a diagnosis and formulate an appropriate treatment plan.

Thank you once again for your loving support.
