Love Comes With Prayer

March 29th, 2008 by chesedkel

“I thank God, whom I serve, as my forefathers did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers. Recalling your tears, I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy.” (2 Timothy 1:3-4)

“We always thank God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers.” (1 Thessalonians 1:2)

“I always thank my God as I remember you in my prayers, because I hear about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints.” (Philemon 4-5)

Why did the apostle Paul have to tell his fellow saints that he had been praying for them night and day? Do you think he is portraying himself as a mighty praying saint? Not at all! Paul let his friends know while he prayed for them because he loved them. He values them greatly and his compassion for them drives him into the prayer closet for their sake. In the three bible scriptures that I have highlighted, Paul is shown to have deep feelings of affection for those he prayed for. He always thanked God for them and constantly remembered them in prayer. Such a habit of praying fervently for friends would not have lasted if not for his love for them.

Your love for friends whom you treasure dearly is kept alive as you move out of your comfortable seat to pray for them, spend an extra cent to send them prayer messages or give them cards with a sweet prayer of blessings. Prayer is a gift of love that should never be withheld from the ears of those who matter to you. When was the last time your friend heard a prayer from you?

Jesus Is Always Our Father

March 20th, 2008 by chesedkel

Read the parable of the lost son in Luke 15:11-31
“But while he (the lost son) was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.” (verse 20)

This parable is about the father’s love for his repentant son and it illustrates God’s desire for us to be with Him regardless of how many times we have let Him down by failing to meet the calling of holiness in our lives. Driven by his compassion for his son, the father never hesitated to forgive and embrace him. The same can be said about God. He never has to think twice about forgiving you and neither does He condemn you for your sins. In fact, God came to us as Jesus to bear our condemnation while we were still slaves to sin.

Jesus chose the nails. He is one without treason and the only one strong enough to shed His blood for you and me so that we do not have to suffer the penalty of sin in the eternal fires of hell.

Jesus has always been a Father to us, but we have never always lived like His children. Yet His mercy endures forever.

As you read the following, fill in the blanks with your name:
But while (      ) was still a long way off, Jesus saw (         ) and was filled with compassion for (         ); he ran to (                ), threw his arms around (                 ) and kissed (          ).
