You are a Precious Gift

December 21st, 2007 by chesedkel

21 December 2007
“When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy. And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense and myrrh.”
Matthew 2:10-11

People give gifts as a way of expressing their appreciation to one another and for some of them, the underlying message packaged within the gift might read: “I love you and I value you very much.” I believe this is the same message that was packaged with the gold, frankincense and myrrh which the wise men gave to Jesus on their visit. Although Jesus was born to a humble couple in a filthy manger, they understood that He is the King of the Jews, the Messiah whom they had anticipated to come. Thus, they were filled with an exceedingly great joy and gave Him the precious gifts in worship.

You can give a gift to God too! You are a precious gift to Him and so significant to God that He was even willing to descend to earth, wrap Himself in flesh and live to die for your sins in order that you can have a deeper relationship with Him. There is no greater gift that you can offer to Him except your entire being. 1 Peter 1:6-9 says, “In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honour and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy, receiving the end of your faith – the salvation of your souls.” In 1 Peter 3, we also learn that the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit is precious in the sight of God (verse 4).

Those scriptures show that you are very precious to Jesus and as you are glad to give yourself to Him, He is more than glad to receive you into His warm embrace. Don’t forget to bless Jesus during this Christmas season. Your name is always on His gift list.

Christmas is about Him

December 14th, 2007 by chesedkel

13 December 2007
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Matthew 6:19-21

Come this Christmas season, most people would be busy buying gifts and hanging decorations to herald the festive spirit. For the world, Christmas is about giving money and gifts. People give money when they buy gifts and food for the major celebration. However, little attention is given to the greatest Gift from Heaven except by churches. This Gift that is given to you with love that bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things and endures all things is often overlooked as people busy themselves in the hustle and bustle of the festive season.

As you buy a gift for someone this Christmas, search deep into your heart and question your motive of doing so. Are you truly sincere in blessing someone with Christ’s love or simply following the world’s trend of commercializing gift items?

The true spirit of Christmas is found by simply putting Jesus Christ in your focus of Christmas. Let Jesus sit on the throne of your heart and throw away the priorities of giving and receiving gifts. When you do that, doors are opened for Jesus to bless you and give you even more insurmountable joy than you can ever receive from material gifts. Jesus is the gift in your life that cannot be destroyed by rust or moth, and He can never be stolen away from you. The joy that is derived from Jesus’ love for you can never die if you would just let your heart be in Jesus. Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness and for His wonderful works to the children of men! For He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness (Psalm 107:8-9). Christmas is about Him!

Dear God, I pray for your people to have their hearts open to You and let their eyes be opened so that they can see the true Spirit of Christmas which is embodied in Jesus Christ. May You open their hearts and their mouths so that they can worship You and give You praise and in turn reap abundant joy that can never die. Thank you, God, for coming to us as the ultimate Gift. Help us to place our sights on things above and not live selfishly and abandon the materialistic life to enter into the fullness of life given by You. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
